Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA)
When you send, carry or receive dangerous goods by road, rail or inland waterway, above a certain load size, and it is your main activity, you must appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA). The above rule applies to shippers, hauliers, consignors, carriers, packers, fillers, loaders and unloaders of dangerous goods.
Description
DGSA training courses which are scheduled to coincide with the quarterly SQA DGSA exams.
The three exams which must be successfully completed within 12 months.
A summary of the responsibilities of Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) include:
- monitoring compliance with the requirements governing the carriage of dangerous goods
- advising the undertaking on the carriage of dangerous goods
- preparing an annual report on the activities of the undertaking in transporting dangerous goods (kept for 5 years)
- implementation of emergency procedures in the event of any accident or incident involving dangerous goods
- investigating any accidents or infringements of regulations and preparing reports
- monitoring the provision of training and advice to other staff
- reporting of incidents and accidents to the Department for Transport (DfT)

Please be aware there is the responsibility of the learner / company to book the external SQA exams, information will be given prior to course commencing.

Prerequisites
Prerequisites for Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) should hold a
- ADR certificate.
- Good knowledge and experience in the transportation of dangerous goods by Road.
